Business Development Bank of Canada

A Canadian Crown corporation providing loans, consulting, and - through BDC Capital - equity, venture, and growth capital to entrepreneurs and SMBs nationwide.

Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) is a Crown corporation wholly owned by the Government of Canada and the country's only financial institution exclusively dedicated to entrepreneurs. Through BDC Capital, its investment arm, the institution deploys equity, venture capital, and growth capital to help innovative companies scale - a mandate that places it among the most active sources of growth and equity financing for Canadian small and medium-sized businesses.

Beyond equity investing, BDC operates two complementary lines: Financing, providing loans tailored to businesses at each stage of development, and Consulting Services, delivering advisory support to entrepreneurs in every industry and region of Canada. The combination of balance sheet, investment, and advisory capabilities allows the institution to support portfolio companies across the full growth cycle rather than at a single financing event.

Operating for over 80 years with more than 110 business centres nationwide, BDC has a geographic footprint covering the whole of Canada. Its stated mandate pairs economic development objectives with the operating practices of a modern financial institution, with an emphasis on building a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Canadian economy. Target sectors include startups and scaling companies alongside the broader SMB base that forms the backbone of the Canadian economy.
