Hasso Plattner Foundation
Potsdam, Brandenburg, DE
A Potsdam-based foundation founded in 2015, managing a global multi-asset endowment to fund institutions in digital engineering, education, arts and conservation.
The Hasso Plattner Foundation is a charitable foundation founded in 2015 and based in Potsdam, Germany. Established by SAP co-founder Hasso Plattner, it directs philanthropy, education, art and conservation towards building and supporting institutions and initiatives for lasting social impact. Its activities are structured around a long-term orientation: a global, multi-asset endowment is managed by an in-house Investment Office to sustain philanthropic activity over the long term.
The foundation's portfolio spans several operating institutions and programmes. The Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering is an educational and research institution focused on digital engineering and the development of future digital leaders. Cultural assets include the Museum Barberini, an art museum in Potsdam, and DAS MINSK, an art venue in the same city. African charitable initiatives support social welfare and conservation-related work on the continent. Sector exposure therefore covers digital engineering and innovation, science and research, arts and culture, environmental conservation and social welfare.
Geographic presence extends from Potsdam to international and African programmes. The foundation collaborates with academic institutions, cultural organisations, nonprofit partners and local communities. Education is treated as central to its institutional mandate, and governance and capital allocation are geared to preserving endowment capacity for the long run rather than to near-term distribution.
