Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan

Independent defined benefit pension plan for Ontario's teachers, managing $279.4 billion in net assets across six asset classes from six global offices.

Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan (OTPP) is the independent defined benefit pension plan for Ontario's teachers and one of the world's largest institutional investors. Founded in 1990, it reported $279.4 billion in net assets as of December 31, 2025, serving 346,000 working members and pensioners through a fully funded defined benefit arrangement. The plan invests globally across six asset classes to deliver long-term, risk-adjusted returns.

Its investment footprint spans six offices - Toronto, London, New York, Singapore, Mumbai and San Francisco - giving direct presence in the major private capital markets. Operating across pension and retirement services, institutional asset management and financial services, the plan's public pension model has been recognised globally and is emulated worldwide.

Governance rests on a single institutional mandate: long-horizon retirement security for a defined member base, without external fund LPs. The organisation describes its culture as one of experimentation, entrepreneurship and empowerment, with a people-first approach, investment in career development, and mental health and well-being support. It also targets positive impact on people, places and communities touched by its investments.
