POSITION OVERVIEW:
This is a leadership role, and the incumbent will play a critical role in fostering Athene – Apollo India actuarial team relationship by enabling two-way communication. They will be expected to deliver on objectives by leveraging on commitments on cost, time, and optimizing the solutions for long term sustainability.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The role encompasses oversee team of 4-8 employees, ensuring timely fulfillment of team deliverables including a broad spectrum of responsibilities:
Functional Management
- Responsible for ensuring the executing model runs and performing analysis for new business and renewal rate setting (indexed annuities, fixed annuities, RILAs, and SPIAs) book of work for different finance teams is delivered on timely basis.
- Responsible managing actuarial team projects related to integrating new product development initiatives and reviewing pricing assumptions, setting rates, for new business and renewal rates for assigned Athene Products Supporting feedback loops between pricing and financial reporting functions.
- Produce and distribute new business and in force management reports.
- Support hedging activities for indexed annuities and RILAs.
- Deliver on process improvements and maintaining robust process documentation.
- Focus on preparing and presenting to the senior leadership.
- Trouble shoot on issues, build controls on manual and risky processes, nurture control culture within the team.
Leadership & Team Management:
- Provide leadership oversight to the actuarial team working on Athene product pricing.
- Establish strong working relationship with Athene and Apollo India actuarial team.
- Support the recruitment of new employees and manage aspects of day-to-day operations (e.g., team communications, seating, org charts, team best practices, etc.)
- Drive leadership at various levels for a people centered leadership and engagement, drive to promote positive, engaged culture, do efficient talent, performance and attrition management, support and implement Athene's strategic and tactical objectives.
- Successfully train new resources and support development of team through strong understanding of relevant processes and systems.
- Coordinate with offshore point of contact to ensure appropriate prioritization and maximum efficiency between teams.
- Partner with the leadership team to lead efforts on culture, including but not limited to: Team building, cross-training, organizing/leading regular meetings, coordinating social events, citizenship/Benevity efforts.
Operational Efficiency
- Responsible for timely reporting and escalation of issues that impacts delivery for Athene. Identifies potential risk areas – people, process, delivery, external and country specific issues that can impact delivery outcomes and compliance.
- Responsible for People, Social, External, Competition, Technical/Access related, Daily Cycle Management, Approvals, Rewards and Recognition and any portfolio specific initiatives, staying abreast of competitive activities, industry best practices and influences, economic and country indicators for better outcomes, risk management and for retention of the team.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and have an innovation mindset to bring in efficiencies.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, finance, or related field required; advanced degree of CA/MBA would be preferred.
- 8-10 years’ experience working in the life insurance industry; exposure to annuities preferred.
- Credentialed actuary (ASA or FSA) who is no longer taking actuarial exams.
- 5+ years’ experience managing offshore team with proven interpersonal skills.
- Excellent oral and written English language skills.
- Experience with ALFA actuarial modeling software or similar.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (specifically Excel) necessary.
- Experience with SAS, SQL, Python preferred.
- Ability to navigate and appreciate the nuances of working in a matrix organization and multi- reporting structures.
- Ability to set and manage priorities in a changing work environment is essential.
- Proven relationship management experience with focus on interacting with senior management and key stakeholders across the organization and deep, proven ability to influence stakeholders.
- Ability to operate in complex environment with multiple stakeholders across the platform.
- Proactive and organized self-starter with a positive attitude, demonstrated work ethic, strong attention to detail.
- Legal ability to work in India – Indian citizenship or PIO status allowing work in India.
