The Role
The company is hiring an FP&A Associate to work directly with the Chief Financial Officer. This is its first dedicated FP&A seat.
You will own the monthly reporting that the leadership team, the Board and the financial sponsor use to run the business, maintain forecasts, and take on the analysis that sits between accounting and strategy: project profitability, backlog, pricing, M&A and integration. You will interface regularly with the financial sponsor on reporting and data requests and will be a part of strategy meetings.
This is a build role for someone two to five years into a finance career who wants outsized responsibility early and a clear path into a senior finance leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting and Analysis
- Own the monthly financial reporting package for the CEO, CFO, Board and financial sponsor: income statement, balance sheet, cash flow and KPIs, with variance analysis against budget and prior year and written commentary.
- Maintain the rolling forecast and annual budget model. Run scenarios on headcount, utilization, pricing, backlog conversion and capital spending.
- Build project-level and client-level profitability analysis across the engineering, survey and inspection service lines. Track gross margin by division and flag trends before they reach the P&L.
- Monitor backlog, bookings, utilization, days sales outstanding and working capital, and report on them monthly.
Lender and Sponsor Reporting
- Prepare the monthly borrowing base report and the quarterly covenant compliance calculations under the company's credit facility, working with the CFO.
- Prepare sponsor-ready and board-ready materials, including monthly business reviews, quarterly board decks and ad hoc analyses.
- Serve as a day-to-day finance point of contact for the financial sponsor on data requests, portfolio reporting and valuation support.
M&A and Integration
- Support acquisition diligence: data room review, quality of earnings support, financial modeling and synergy analysis.
- Support post-acquisition integration: consolidation of reporting, alignment of KPIs and chart of accounts, and tracking of synergy realization against plan.
Special Projects and Process
- Lead special projects for the CFO and CEO: pricing reviews, cost reduction initiatives, fleet and equipment capital decisions, vendor and software rationalization, and other efficiency work.
- Improve the month-end close and reporting cycle time. Build repeatable templates and document methodologies so the function scales.
- Help stand up dashboards and self-service reporting from the company's ERP and payroll data.
- Perform other miscellaneous tasks as requested, directed or assigned by manager.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
- Two to five years of experience in FP&A, investment banking, private equity, transaction advisory, public accounting or a private equity portfolio company finance role.
- Advanced in Excel: three-statement models, scenario analysis and comfort with large datasets. Strong PowerPoint for board and sponsor materials.
- Working knowledge of GAAP and financial statement analysis.
- Clear writer and presenter. Comfortable working directly with senior executives and investors.
- Self-directed. Able to build process and reporting where little exists today, and to manage multiple deliverables against firm deadlines.
- Team-oriented and adaptable. Willing to take on responsibilities beyond the core role to support the team and business priorities.

- Experience in a professional services or project-based business (percentage-of-completion or utilization-based revenue).
