This position will be a hybrid work arrangement. You will receive 18 remote workdays per quarter to use at your discretion, subject to manager approval. For example, you may choose to work in the office 4 days per week and take one remote day weekly (typically 13 weeks per quarter), leaving 5 additional remote days to be used as needed.

This position requires a minimum of four days per week in the Boston office, excluding time spent traveling for business. Occasional travel is expected.

HarbourVest Partners is looking for a Vice President to join the Primary Investments team in Boston. The main duties involve sourcing and evaluating Private Equity, Growth Equity and Venture Capital fund investments, portfolio management, and representing HarbourVest externally with both General Partners and Limited Partners. This outstanding opportunity allows you to apply your expertise in a collaborative environment while contributing to impactful investment strategies.

The ideal candidate is someone who is:

  • Experienced with manager due diligence across Private Equity, Growth Equity and Venture Capital

  • Adept at sourcing, building and maintaining relationships with General Partners

  • Exceptionally analytical with deep experience in Excel

  • Proven in managing and monitoring investment portfolios

  • Skilled in both written and verbal communication, including presenting to senior leaders, General Partners and clients

  • Highly collaborative with an ability to work seamlessly across teams

What you will do:

  • Own and drive the investment process (e.g. manager due diligence, underwriting, oversight and preparation of investment memos/presentation, referencing, active IC discussion, legal negotiation and closing processes)

  • Source new investment opportunities, develop and deepen relationships with new and existing General Partners, and identify opportunities for cross-platform partnership

  • Monitor partnership investments, including through active participation in LPAC meetings, Annual Meetings and regular update meetings with General Partners

  • Mentor and support junior team members

  • Assist team with client service, including material preparation and meeting participation

What you bring:

  • Strong investment analysis and due diligence skills

  • Capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively with others

  • Excellent interpersonal, quantitative, and communication skills

  • Experience leading manager due diligence processes

  • Leadership abilities to drive projects and motivate team members

Education Preferred:

  • Bachelor of Arts (B.A) or Bachelor of Science (B.S) degree

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or comparable experience

Experience:

  • 5-10+ years of experience in private equity, investments, or an investment advisory position preferred

Base Salary Range

$200,000.00 - $210,000.00

This USD base salary range represents only one component of total compensation for this role and is provided in accordance with local requirements. This role is eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, which is determined based on individual and overall firm performance. In addition to salary and bonus, total compensation may include eligibility for long-term reward programs and a comprehensive total rewards package that may include retirement, health, insurance, paid time off, and wellness programs. Our total rewards offerings are influenced by several business factors, and eligibility for certain components will vary by position and geography. Please note the posted ranges do not apply outside the U.S. and should not be converted to other currencies as a proxy for compensation in other countries.
